Cougar Soccer Teams Continue to Draw National Attention

Both men's and women's soccer teams continue to get national attention as both teams and individually. While the men's team was the only one of the two to move up in yesterday's national polls, the women's team remains undefeated with a perfect 6-0 record with both teams in action later today as they host Cayuga Community College with a 4 p.m. start for the women's game and 6 p.m. start for the men's game.

The men's team jumped a couple of spots to No. 5 nationally after having a tremendous week with a record-setting game for goals at 21 against Niagara County Community College and a definitive victory over then-No. 4 Montgomery College, who entered the game with a 7-0-0 record.

The women's team remained at No. 4 after only a single contest last week where they shut out Niagara County Community College 11-0. Collectively, both soccer teams combined to out-score their oppositions 36-1 during three games last week.

Today, David Ormiston received his second-consecutive National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer D-III Goalie of the Week honor after stopping 14 total shots last week, but 13 in the upset win over Montgomery with their lone goal coming on a free kick. The goal left Ormiston's shutout streak at 264 minutes. The last time the sophomore keeper let in a non-overtime goal during regulation that wasn't a free kick was in the season-opener against Mercer County Community College seven games ago.

In addition to Ormiston, teammate Ryan Price received accolades the previous week both nationally and from the region. Price was named the NJCAA Men's Soccer D-III Player of the Week and Region III's Male Athlete of the Week.

Joining Price at the regional-level as Region III's Female Athlete of the Week was Miko Yamashita of the women's soccer team. Links for the national rankings and player accolades with more details about their performances can be found below:
