No. 6 Women’s Soccer Team Falls to No. 2 Erie

Miko Yamashita

In a battle of National Junior College Athletic Association Women's Soccer D-III nationally ranked top-10 schools, No. 2 Erie got the better of No. 6 Genesee by a 5-1 margin in Orchard Park, Sept. 27.

Autumn Ressue headed a Diante Scheepers free kick almost eight minutes into the second half to cut the Kats' lead to 2-1, but that was as close as the Cougars would come.

Current NJCAA Goalkeeper of the Week Jaclyn Guzdek was busy in the Cougar net with double-digit saves at 10.

Genesee registered 10 shots of its own on the Kats with Leah Czechowski leading the way with four. Scheepers and Miko Yamashita each had a pair of shots, while single shots were taken by Katline Cartwright and Ressue.

The loss snapped the team's seven-game win streak and was the first of the season to a Division-III team. No. 2 Erie climbed up the NJCAA national polls this week after upsetting then-No. 1 Herkimer last week.

Genesee continues on the road with its next contest at Cayuga Sept. 30 with a 1 p.m. start.
