The Genesee Community College women's soccer team beat Corning Community College 5-3 in a home contest Sept. 5.to move to 4-1 on the season.
Miko Yamashita was in on three of the first four goals that included the eventual game-winner when she staked her team to a 4-0 lead after nine minutes into the second half. The All-American also had a pair of assists on the first two Cougar goals.
Diante Scheepers opened the scoring on what looked like a partial breakaway, although there was a Corning player draped behind her.
Katline Cartwright continues to have a banner season and scored another pair of goals for the Cougars.
The Red Barons mounted a comeback but could get no closer than a pair at 4-2 and 5-3.
Leah Czechowski restored a three-goal Cougar lead at 5-2 with about four minutes to go in the contest.
Jaclyn Guzdek recorded four saves in the win. Genesee held the edge in overall shots 23-14 and shots on net 8-7.
The women's team will wait a week before its next action at Niagara County Community College Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.
