The No. 4 Genesee Community College women's soccer team rallied twice in the second half during a road contest in Binghamton, but couldn't get the equalizer in dropping its regular season finale to Broome Community College 3-2 Oct. 21.

The loss snapped Genesee's four-game win streak and was just the team's second defeat to a Division III opponent all season as the Cougars enter playoffs with a 13-3-1 record.

The Hornets took a 2-0 lead to the intermission before Katline Cartwright brought Genesee within a goal to make it a 2-1 game. Broome was able to retake its two-goal lead, but Bri Heers answered to again bring the Cougars just a goal away from overtime.

Both Cartwright and Heers finished the day with three points apiece with assists on each other's goals.

Jaclyn Guzdek recorded 13 saves on the day, while Miko Yamashita led all Genesee players in shots with six of the team's 19. Each team had three corner kicks.

The Cougars will head to the region playoffs later this week with their opponent to be determined.
