No. 1 Women’s Soccer Team Has Win Streak Snapped by Nationally-Ranked D-I Monroe

Women's Soccer player goes up for a header Vs MCC

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team lost its first game of the season just hours after being ranked No. 1 by the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association in their D-III poll.

In a non-conference, cross-divisional game, the Cougars fell to D-I Monroe Community College, 4-0 under the lights on the soccer field adjacent to the new Richard C. Call Arena on GCC's Batavia campus, Sept. 26.

The Tribunes are also ranked nationally, but at the NJCAA D-I Poll at No. 4. Aside from their season-opening 4-3 overtime win against Harford Community College, the four-goal differential against Genesee was the lowest for Monroe in any of its other wins this season as the Tribunes improved their record to 6-1.

Monroe scored a pair of goals in each half, but Genesee showed a marked improvement both territorially and in creating chances in the second half.

The Cougars doubled their shots in the second and finished with six for the contest, while MCC peppered Genesee keeper Jaclyn Guzdek with 18 on goal for the game.

Bayley Kralik provided all the offense Monroe would need with her two, first-half goals. Theoni Zerva and Elin Eklund also scored with the latter registering a game-high seven shots on net.

Next up for the Cougars will be a battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 as Genesee hosts Erie, Sept, 28. The Kats, like the Cougars, crossed over to face Monroe a few weeks back and also lost, but by a 7-1 score. The game will live-streamed at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/59y5DKH5kFN
