Playing in their first game since appearing in the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association's National Poll at No. 4, the Genesee Community College's women's soccer team wasted no time validating its vault into the national spotlight by improving their record to 6-0 on the season.

The team nearly doubled its offensive output of the season against visiting Niagara County Community College with an 11-0 win Sept. 13, with eight of the 11 coming in the first half.

A dozen different players found their way to the score sheet and were led by current NJCAA Region III Player of the Week, Niko Yamishita. The freshman tallied the game's first three goals after about a dozen minutes to begin the rout.

Katline Cartwright had two of the team's three second-half goals and last two of the contest, while also adding an assist.

The Cougars out-shot the Thunderwolves 40-3 for the game with Cougar goalkeeper's Jaclyn Guzdek and Rachel Meyer splitting time between the pipes in sharing the shutout win.

Allison Duhow and Kali Wright each registered three-point afternoons with a goal and assist each. Other goal scorers for Genesee included Claudia Cooney, Sara Zakes, Leah Czechowski and Jenna Lewis.

Earning single helpers for the Cougars were Molly Reyngoudt, Leah Herman, Paige Biggins; while Allison Becker added a pair.

The game was the first of a home stand of six with the next coming Sept. 20 when the Cougars will host Cayuga Community College at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed online at the following link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/59y5DKH5kFN
