The Genesee Community College women's soccer team moved to 5-0 this week after a pair of road wins against Corning Community College and Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

In both games the Cougars gave their opposition their first losses of the season and hope to be recognized in the next National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association D-III Women's Soccer National Poll.

First, Genesee defeated Corning in a dramatic come-from-behind win 3-2, Sept. 6 and then shutout Tompkins-Cortland 3-0, Sept. 9 to remain perfect on the season.

Miko Yamashita started the Cougar rally in the 3-2 win against the Red Barons and followed that performance with assists on all three goals against Tompkins-Cortland, where she dominated offensively with a team-high six shots.

In the Corning game Genesee trailed 2-0, before Yamashita's late goal of the first half helped propel her team to a pair of late second-half tallies for the win. Sara Zakes tied the game with about 13 minutes to go and Jenna Lewis got the game winner with about 90 seconds remaining in regulation. Julie Kommer and Karli Phillips earned assists on the first two goals against Corning, respectively.

In the Tompkins-Cortland game, the Panthers entered the contest against the Cougars with a 5-0 season record as the teams battled to a scoreless tie during the first half.

Katline Cartwright netted a pair - including the game winner - in the second half and then Zakes added an insurance marker to cap off another great week of GCC soccer.

Jaclyn Guzdek also improved her goalkeeping record to 5-0 as the winning keeper in each contest.
