GCC women's soccer defends against attacker

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team took on its first Region III opponent Sept. 2 by hosting Mohawk Valley Community College.

The Cougars peppered the Hawks with 30 shots – 15 in each half – on their way to a 3-1 win that left GCC perfect on the year with a 3-0 record.

Leah Herman scored a pair of goals about 90 seconds apart in the first half to stake Genesee to a 2-0 lead before Bri Heers increased the Cougars' lead to 3-0 late in the second half.

Allison Duhow picked up an assist on the first Cougar tally, while Leah Czechowski also added a helper on the final goal.

Jacklyn Guzdek was about 10 minutes away from her third-consecutive shutout before the Hawks finally beat the stalwart goalkeeper.

The Cougars dominated the contest territorially almost playing the entire game in the Hawks' defensive end that included almost a dozen corner kicks.
