Women’s Soccer Team Undefeated after Opening Weekend of Play

The Genesee Community College women's soccer team traveled to Herkimer for a pair of non-conference games Aug. 26 and Aug. 27 against the College of DuPage and Nassau Community College, respectively.

In the season-opener against DuPage, Katline Cartwright had a pair of goals to lead the Cougars to a 2-0 win. Jenna Lewis earned an assist on Cartwright's first goal 34 minutes into the contest, while Claudia Cooney also recorded an assist but on Cartwright's second tally eight minutes later.

With a 2-0 lead at halftime, goalkeeper Jacklyn Guzdek closed the door on the DuPage attack to earn her first shutout of the season with a five-save performance. Genesee out-shot DuPage by nearly a 4:1 margin with 19 shots.

Against Nassau, Guzdek recorded her second shutout in as many appearances with a four-save effort to stake the Cougars to 2-0 on the season with a 1-0 win.

Miko Yamashita scored the lone goal and game winner in the 61st minute with an assist to Jayna Wright. The Cougars out-shot the Lions by a 3:1 margin with a dozen offensive shots.
