The Genesee Community College women's basketball team opened its 2018-19 season on the road in Syracuse with just four returning players against host Onondaga Community College Nov. 1.

The first half was close with just two scores separating the two teams at 35-30, but Onondaga pulled away in the second for a 74-56 win. The Cougars did score six more points than they did last season when the two teams also met in both their season-openers.

Grace McComb led the Cougars with 20 points and had more than one-third of Genesee's total offensive output for an impressive freshman debut.

Two other first-year players made solid offensive contributions with Erina Ishiquro and Molly Buck contributing eight points apiece. Returner TaLia Burgess rounded out Genesee's top-four scorers with a six-point outing.

Genesee next travels to Jamestown for its annual crossover tournament where the Cougars will face Corning Community College Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., followed by a game against Broome Community College Nov. 4 at 3 p.m.
