The Genesee Community College women's basketball team rallied several times in the second and third quarters, but couldn't muster a fourth-quarter rally and dropped to host Erie 81-71 Feb. 14.
The Kats got out to a 7-0 start, but Genesee pulled within two by the end of the first at 18-16. Rosalyn Sealey opened the scoring in the second quarter to finally get the Cougars even at 18, and it wasn't until a Reika Murota three gave Genesee its first lead of the game at 23-22 almost three minutes into the second quarter.
After trailing 33-30 at the half, Sealey gave Genesee a 45-43 lead with just three minutes left in the third before Erie re-took the lead by the end of the quarter at 53-47.
TaLia Burgess led the Cougars with 19 points and was one of five Genesee players to hit double-digits. Sealey netted 15, Kierra Perl had 14, Murota scored 11 and Jasmine Holmes finished with 10.
Burgess also hauled down a team-high 10 rebounds to secure the double-double. Holmes registered a season-high seven blocks to go with eight rebounds, while Sealey added a half-dozen assists.
Genesee next hosts Niagara at 1 p.m. on Feb. 17.
