The Genesee Community College women's basketball team won both of their tournament games and of the four teams in the women's bracket were the only one to emerge with a pair of wins.

The Cougars saved their best performance for last in terms of showing their perseverance and resolve against Roberts Wesleyan College's junior varsity squad with a 72-52 win Dec. 10.

Genesee trailed by double-digits in the first quarter, but the Cougars put on their most impressive run of the season by responding with a 26-2 run that turned a 10-point deficit into doubling the opposition's total and taking the lead for good at 28-14.

The Cougars upped their lead by 20 shortly into the third quarter and maintained that lead nearly throughout the rest of the game before finishing with the 72-52 win.

The previous afternoon, Genesee bested the Community College of Rhode Island 74-61. The Knights were able to match Genesee's 18 points in the third quarter, but aside from that the Cougars out-scored Rhode Island in each of the other three quarters, Dec. 9.

Against the Knights, TaLia Burgess had the hot hand and sank seven shots from beyond the arc and led the Cougars in scoring with 25. Some of those threes came from Rosalyn Sealey's team-high eight assists, as the team's lone sophomore added 17 points. Estella Anderson was once again dominant under the boards with a dozen rebounds and just missed a double-double with nine points. Burgess and Rachel Meyer each had seven boards and finished behind Anderson in team rebounds.

Against the Redhawks, Burgess sank three more threes and tied with Sealey for the team's top scorer with 15. Just behind them was Chevaneese Millington with 14 points, while Anderson was the team's fourth double-digit scorer with 10 and co-led the team in rebounds with Titilopemi Olusola at nine. Anderson also added three assists and six blocks, while Sealey led the team in assists with four.
