Genesee Drops WNYAC Home Opener to Niagara

The GCC women's basketball team dropped its Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) home opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to visiting Niagara County CC 77-46.

Genesee, which falls to 0-2 in conference play after dropping its opener on the road at Erie CC on Wednesday, went the first three and a half minutes of the game without a basket and shot just over 18 percent in the first half.

Niagara led start to finish and forced 23 GCC turnovers, capitalizing with 23 points off of takeaways.

Norvonee Hall was the only Cougar to reach double figures in both points and rebounds, tallying 20 of each.

Kelsey Scott-Avery hit two of GCC's four 3pt baskets in the game and scored six points, also grabbing five boards. Rosalyn Sealey added seven points and collected six rebounds, and Brionna Blocker and Lauren Watson each finished with five points apiece.

Genesee was outscored in each quarter, falling behind by 19 at half and dropping the final two quarters by a combined 12 points.

Genesee will return to action at home on Monday night in a non-conference matchup against Villa Maria College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
