Genesee Falls to Garrett; Win Streak Ends at Two

The GCC women's basketball team had its two-game win streak snapped on Friday night, after the Cougars fell to visiting Garrett College (Md.) 83-65.

The Lakers, the third highest scoring team in the country, finished below their season average of 92.1 points per game, but forced 31 GCC turnovers and now sit at 10-1 on the season.

Genesee did not lead in the game but kept it close through three quarters.

Norvonee Hall scored 14 of her team-high 24 points in the first half, and recorded her seventh double-double of the season, grabbing 15 rebounds in the losing effort on Friday.

Garrett led by four possessions to start the fourth quarter before Lauren Watson hit one of her three 3pt baskets to cut the deficit to eight. That was as close as GCC would get the rest of the way as the Lakers ended the game on a 22-12 run.

Watson also finished in double figures for Genesee, ending the game with 18 points. Rosalyn Sealey chipped in seven points and 12 rebounds, Brionna Blocker added nine points and nine boards, and Pamela Crespo finished with seven points.

Genesee (3-7) continues its five game homestand on Sunday against Lakeland CC. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
