The GCC women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up a pair of wins this weekend, dropping the Community College of Rhode Island and Durham College (Ont.) in the 2016 Cougar Holiday Classic Tournament.

The Cougars started the weekend with a 21 point victory over CCRI, holding the visiting Knights to under 25-percent shooting from the field.

Genesee led by just one at the half, 29-28, but kept CCRI to just four points in the third quarter and outscored the visitors 42-22 in the final two quarters to earn the 71-50 win.

Lauren Watson led three GCC players in double-figures, finishing the game with 19 points. Norvonee Hall tallied a 17 rebound 15 point double-double and Rosalyn Sealey also filled the stat sheet, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 boards. Brionna Blocker chipped in 11 rebounds and nine points and Pamela Crespo added five points and six boards.

Genesee rolled to a win over Durham College on Sunday, 74-64 after shooting its second-highest percentage of the season at better than 42-percent.

Balanced scoring saw four of GCC's five starters reach double figures, led by Hall who finished with 20 points. She also collected 20 boards for her second double-double in as many days.

Watson hit three 3pt baskets on the afternoon and finished with 13 points for the Cougars, who dug out of a 14-5 hole in the first quarter to take a 21-17 lead after one, a lead they would not give back the rest of the way.

Sealey added 14 points and nine rebounds, Crespo added 12 points and seven boards and Kelsey Scott-Avery chipped in five points, two rebounds and two assists.

Genesee (3-6) will return to action at home on Friday against Garrett College for a 7 p.m. start.
