Cougar Swimmers Split with Redhawks

The Genesee Community College swimming teams traveled to Rochester to take on Roberts Wesleyan College with the women's team falling 96-68 and the men's team winning by 100 points at 136-36, Dec. 9.

The men's team captured 11 first places, while the women's team took six.

Four Cougar men's swimmers won a pair of events each that included Matthew Langerman (1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle), Joan Ferrer (200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke), Ryan Mahaney (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly), and Ferran Martinez (200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke). Brandon Brown won the 100-yard freestyle and was part of the Cougars' winning 400-yard freestyle relay team along with Alex Bookmiller, Bryant Springett and Langerman.

Two women's swimmers from GCC also won a pair of events that included Angel Priest (50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke) and Nanako Shiozawa (200-yard individual medley and 200-yard breaststroke). Natalie Amico won the 100-yard butterfly and was part of the Cougars' winning relay team at the 400-yard freestyle along with Priest, Shiozawa, and Mady Roth.

The event against the Redhawks ended the team's competition for the calendar year as the Cougars will start 2018 in Buffalo in the Erie Community College Invitational Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
