Genesee Finishes Regular Season at Home Invite

Genesee hosted Jamestown CC and Herkimer College in a final regular season meeting on Saturday afternoon, swimming and diving in its last competition before the postseason beginning next week.

Angel Priest topped a pair of races in the meet on the women's side, pacing the 50 butterfly (29.82) and the 500 free (6:16.01). Miranda Dunton topped the 200 free and beat her time from Wednesday night by more than three seconds (2:12.21) and MiKenna Carpenter was just off the lead in the 50 butterfly, finishing runner up (31.84).

GCC's women's 400 free relay team of Priest, Dunton, Carpenter and Lindsay Harloff swam the race in 4:22.59, and Dunton, Carpenter, Priest and Shizuka Furuta finished the 400 medley relay in 5:05.25.

Benjamin Vacanti was the top swimmer on the men's side in the 50 butterfly, edging out a .34 second win with a finishing time of 27.12. Trent Stack also finished the race just off the pace with an end time 27.59. Stack won the 100 fly (1:02.23), Kyle Podlaski swam to a win in the 50 back (28.08) and Matthew Langerman followed up Wednesday night's win in the 1650 free by capturing the 200 free (1:57.31) and the 500 free (5:21.15).

Thomas Slenker put together a second place finish in the diving portion of the meet, tallying 419.17 points. Denzel Flowers finished fourth with 323.55 points.

Genesee will now move on to the Region III/Northeast District Championships, which will run Feb. 10-12 at host site Monroe CC.
