Cougar Softball Team Continues to Knock on the Door

Cougar softball team

The Genesee Community College softball team had a challenging time trying to build some rhythm last weekend with just a single doubleheader at Herkimer County Community College April 21.

With an entire week between contests due to cancellations caused by weather, the Cougars came within a run in at least one of its contests in its last two doubleheaders with a single-run loss at Erie the week before April 14, and a single-run loss to the Generals in one of the two games this past weekend.

Genesee rallied with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close Herkimer's lead to 3-2, but that was as close as they would get. In addition to being out-scored by a single run, Genesee was also out-hit by a single swing,

The Cougar rally saw both Katie Haefele and Brittni Way cross the plate with Haefele plating a double. Also with a double was Jackie Guzdek, who earned one of the team's RBIs as did Kennedy Lampart.

Sam Tatarski went the distance from the mound in facing 26 batters. Herkimer took the other game of the doubleheader 18-1 with Tatarski providing the bright spot with a homerun while going 1-for-2 at the plate in the five-inning affair.

Guzdek took the loss from the mound in surrendering just five earned runs of the 18.

The Cougars return home with a three doubleheaders in three days beginning April 24 against Corning Community College followed by doubleheaders against Niagara (April 25) and Erie (April 26).
