Ubukata Joins Weber as Softball All-Region Selection

Women's Softball players selected for All-Region Team

Shiori Ubukata joined the list of GCC student athletes to earn postseason honors this spring, earning a spot on the All-Region III Division III Softball Second Team. She joins fellow teammate Mackenzie Weber who was named first team all-region and the Region III Player of the Year.

Ubukata put together a solid spring for the Cougars, batting .405 with 49 total hits, 44 runs scored, and 18 runs batted in. The freshman shortstop finished with 60 assists and 56 put outs, and sported a .951 fielding percentage. She appeared in and started all 35 games for Genesee this season.

Weber broke the single season GCC record for home runs (12), runs batted in (55), walks (22) and doubles (16). She hit .559 on the season, racking up 57 hits including 28 extra-base hits. As a pitcher, she won 15 games and struck out 90 batters and tallied a 4.28 earned run average.

Genesee finished the season with a 19-16 overall record and advanced to the regional final four for the second time in the last three seasons as the No. 4 seed. The Cougars lost to Herkimer College in two games in the Region III-A Finals series and set team record for most home runs in a season with 23 and tied the single season record for most doubles with 66.
