Genesee's Maurer Tabbed Coach of the Year

GCC Women's Softball Coach of the Year

Genesee Community College softball head coach Taylor Maurer was named the Region III Division III Coach of the Year, and the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Co-Coach of the Year for the spring 2017 season. GCC advanced to the Region III-A Finals and finished runner-up after a fourth place finish in the regional standings during the regular season.

In her second season as head coach, Maurer led Genesee to a 19-16 overall record, including a 16-6 mark in the region and 6-5 record in the conference. The Cougars began the year 3-6, but played to a 16-10 record in the months of April and May and were second in the region in team home runs and fourth in hits, both tops in the WNYAC.

The 2017 team set the school record for most home runs in a single season with 23 and tied the record for doubles with 66. Two members of the team were selected all-region and five were named to the all-conference team.

Maurer took over the GCC softball program in May 2015 and currently holds a 34-32 win-loss record in two seasons at the helm.
