Weber Tosses Cougars to Doubleheader Sweep of Monroe

Mackenzie Weber helped the GCC softball team to a pair of wins against visiting Monroe CC on Tuesday afternoon, earning both wins on the mound in a pair of complete game performances.

Genesee won game one behind a dominant performance by Weber, who held Monroe to just a single run on four hits in a full game of work.

GCC wasted little time, taking a two run lead in the bottom of the first after Weber sent a 1-0 pitch over the center field fence that scored Sydney Brenton who led off the inning with a single.

Karli Phillips gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead in the third after Weber allowed her only run of the game in the top of the inning, on a run scoring single, one of three RBI's for Phillips in the game. The freshman also plated a pair in the sixth inning with a two run double.

Genesee led 5-1 going into the bottom of the sixth and scored four times to earn the mercy rule win. After Phillips put the Cougars up 8-1, Amanda Stratton drove her in with a sacrifice fly to give GCC its ninth and game-winning run.

Weber struck out four Tribunes and went 1-1 with three walks and three runs scored at the plate. Joelle Kaminski also drew three walks and scored two runs, Phillips went 2-4 and scored a run, and Noeth scored two runs and stole a base.

MCC pieced together a pair of two out hits in the first inning of game two to grab a 1-0 lead, but Genesee loaded the bases and scored five times in the third to take over. Abigail Noeth and Kaminski each drew a bases loaded walk and Stratton drove home a pair with a two run double before Kaminski scored on a wild pitch.

The Cougars loaded the bases again in the fourth and got RBI's from Kaminski and Faye Conley, and added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pad their lead.

Weber struck out six in game two and allowed eight runs on 12 hits.

Genesee (18-14) will return to action on Saturday in a doubleheader at Finger Lakes CC.
