The No. 3 Genesee Community College men's soccer team captured its fourth-consecutive regional title with a 5-0 win over Onondaga Community College in Dryden, NY Oct. 28.

Western New York Athletic Conference Division-III Men's Soccer Most Valuable Player Sam Hall scored the team's only goal of the first half that proved to be the game winner.

Philip Melo added the team's second goal about six minutes into the second half, before the Cougars then exploded for three more goals within a 10-minute span beginning with National Junior College Athletic Association D-III Men's Soccer leading scorer Rodrigo Albuquerque, who started the Genesee goal barrage with 30 minutes to go.

About seven minutes later Ross White made it a 4-0 game and 1:44 after that Shahin Tahir Nasabi rounded out the scoring.

Hall and Adam Price were selected to the all-tournament team along with Melo, who was chosen as the tournament's most valuable player.

Melo and Albuquerque were the only two Cougars to record multi-point performances with a goal and assist each. Price also earned an assist in addition to being named to the all-tournament team.

Cougar keepers Adrian Bergman and Matthies Meyer shared the clean sheet.

Genesee improves to 17-3 on the season with 13 of those wins coming by shutout – including today's victory. The team is currently riding a five-game win streak where it has outscored oppositions 35-1.

The 2017 NJCAA D-III National Champion GCC Men's Soccer team will return to the site of last year's championship win in Herkimer, Nov. 8-11 to defend its title.
