No. 4 Men’s Soccer Team Puts Together Back-to-Back Double-Digit Wins

Rodrigo Albuquerque

The No. 4 Genesee Community College men's soccer team beat visiting Tompkins Cortland 11-0, Sept. 25. Combined with its previous start – a 13-0 win – the Cougars have now amassed two dozen goals while giving up none.

Even during its 2017 national championship run, Genesee never put together back-to-back double digit victories.

Three players accounted for 20 points in the win with Rodrigo Albuquerque recording nine points from four goals and one assist. Ed Port added a pair of goals and a pair of assists for six points, while Hiago Barros de Souza had two goals and one assist for five points.

Albuquerque's performance allowed him to leapfrog over players in both the goals and points categories into No. 1 overall in the nation in D-III NJCAA statistics with 40 points and 18 goals.

Other goal scorers included Camilo Pernet Jimenez, Jack Sharman-Dodd and Jose Manoel Cavalini, with the latter also adding a helper. Rounding out the scoresheet with one assist each was Cameron Logan and Shahin Tahir Nasabi.

Genesee out-shot the Panthers 43-2 and held an edge in corner kicks at 15-1. Matthies Meyer and Marcus Kenline split time in net with the former earning the start and the win.

The Cougars next travel to Erie for a 4 p.m. start Sept. 27.
