Regional Top-Seeded No. 3 Men’s Soccer Team Awaits Region Semifinal Playoff Opponent

NJCAA Region 3 Men's Soccer Update

The No. 3 Genesee Community College men's team will host an undetermined team Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. to start its playoff run to a potential regional and national title.

The only undefeated team in Region III competition, the Cougars posted a 12-0-1 record and will play the winner of tomorrow's regional quarterfinal contest between Tompkins-Cortland Community College and Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Dryden at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Neither team played one another during regular season play.

The Cougars did however beat the Panthers by four goals and the Raiders by six during the regular season. Tompkins-Cortland fell 4-0 on Sept. 9, while Fulton-Montgomery lost to Genesee 7-1 Oct. 8.

Two Region III winners will emerge to the national tournament as the regional set-up will provide for District A and District B champions.

If the Cougars advance against the winner of the Raiders/Panthers game, they would host the winner of the other District A semifinal between No. 4 Cayuga Community College and No. 5 Broome Community College, Sunday Oct. 29.

In competition against those two teams this season, the Cougars just completed their final regular season game against Broome Oct. 21 with a 4-0 win and had also defeated Cayuga Sept. 20, 2-1 in double overtime.

The Cougars won the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) title for the last seven seasons and have advanced to the regional finals in each of the last six seasons and have won three Region III championships since 2011 that include back-to-back titles from the last two seasons.
