No. 4 Men’s Soccer Cougars Claws No. 8 Erie

Men's Soccer player - Telles

The No. 4 Genesee Community College men's soccer team had a theme with the number eight while hosting visiting Erie Community College Sept. 28. The Cougars finished with crazy eights as they won the game by a margin of eight, while scoring eight over the eighth-ranked team in the nation.

It took the Cougars just 72 seconds to record the game winner by Charlie Livesey from a free kick. Genesee would add four more in the first and three in the second, while David Ormiston shut the door on anything the Kats could throw his way until he was relieved by Gaurav Cheema. The pair split the shutout in the 8-0 win.

Nine different Cougars found their way to the scoresheet with the best performance by Hijiri Sano, who recorded three goals on the night.

Sano's six points were followed by Ryan Price's four (one goal and two assists), and Livesey's three (game-winner and single helper).

Current Region III Male Athlete of the Week Billy Murphy also scored, as did Ross White and Jack Sharman-Dodd.

Narhum Nivillac, Matheus Araujo and Tate Dean all recorded assists in the win; while Cheema finished in net for the game's final 20 minutes.

The Cougars held a more than 2-to-1 advantage in shots at 25-12 and even a bigger advantage in corner kicks at 5-1, but the Kats did manage to win the foul total 12-5 with four yellow cards.

Sano equaled the Kats' team total of shots on net with four, while Livesey had the most shots of the game with six.

The Cougars will next host Jamestown Community College, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. The game will live-streamed at: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/59y5DKH5kFN
