No. 3 Men’s Soccer Team’s Rally Falls Short

GCC Men's Soccer player fights for the ball

The No. 3 Genesee Community College men's soccer team fell behind to Mercer County Community College 2-0, but cut the deficit to one before heading into the break against the Vikings Aug. 26 at GCC.

Charlie Livesey tried to rally his team with a goal about a minute after the Vikings went up 2-0, but Mercer got the only goal of the second half to take the game 3-1.

Keeper David Ormiston went all 90 minutes and was able to beat several Viking strikers to the ball for potential breakaway opportunities.

Cougar captain Glenn Holmes may have had the best chances up front although he played the majority of the game as a defender. Twice Holmes just missed heading the ball into the net from corner kicks.

The men's team will play its next four games on the road before returning home to host Niagara County Community College Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.

The team will travel to Rockville, Md. with a pair of contests next weekend starting with a game against Nassau Community College Sept. 2, and followed by a contest against Camden County Sept. 3.
