Derek Hoover is taking over the Genesee lacrosse program for his first year as head coach. Coach Hoover originally joined the program as the Associate Head Coach in 2006, alongside his father Dave who was the head coach. Dave will be stepping into the Associate Head Coach role for the Cougars.

During Derek’s 17-year tenure at Genesee, he has been in charge of the team’s offense and recruiting. He now takes the helm of a Cougars program that has made the national tournament ten times since the Hoover family took over, making the Final Four eight times, including 2016’s National Title. Genesee has seen 31 All-American athletes, 15 Academic All-American athletes and an abundance of All-Region athletes come through their program.

From Coach Hoover: Our biggest accomplishment is giving all our athletes the chance to play high level lacrosse, while understanding what it takes to be a successful student-athlete. As a program we have had over 80 players transfer to four-year colleges and universities to continue their athletic and academic careers.

Prior to joining the program in 2006, Derek coached the East Aurora boy’s varsity team, leading the Blue Devils to five straight Section VI Class C championship games. He is a graduate of SUNY Cortland, with his B.A. in Physical Education, and a minor in elementary education. He was a member of the lacrosse team, including the 2001 team that made the NCAA tournament. Derek lives with his wife and three children in Williamsville, NY.
