Men's Lacrosse Picks Up Post-Season Awards

BATAVIA, NY…  The Genesee Community College men's lacrosse program earned post-season awards and had several members be named to All-Conference and All-Region teams as well as two student-athletes being named All-Americans. The program finished the 2019 season with a record of 8-5, winning the Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) Championship and the NJCAA Region III Championship.

Two players were named NJCAA All-Americans as Hamburg, NY's Jason Chiodo was named First Team All-American and Gorham, Maine's Mat Anderson was named Second Team All-American. The accolades continued for the pair of sophomores as both Chiodo and Anderson were also placed on the NJCAA Region III All-Region First Team and were named First Team All-WNYAC. Chiodo finished his Genesee career with 90 goals and a total of 149 points. Chiodo also has the team record for most assists in a single game with 12 and most points in a single game with 15, a feat that he broke this season in a contest against Hudson Valley. Mat Anderson caused 14 turnovers and picked up 40 groundballs this past season and was a mainstay for the Cougars defense.

Anthony Diamico, Jake Smeader, and Zach Wade were also named to the All-Region First Team. Diamico and Smeader were also joined by Lincoln Potter on the All-WNYAC First Team. Wade was an All-WNYAC Second Team selection joining Kyle Isaacs, Timothy Martino, and Konner Sunday. Isaacs and Jacob Hicks were named to the All-Region Second Team as Sunday and Austin Palmer were named to the All-Region Third Team.

Men's lacrosse won the program's eighth Western New York Athletic Conference championship, eighth Region III title and lost in overtime to Howard Community College in the NJCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships first round. The men's lacrosse program and SUNY GCC hosted the 2019 NJCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championships this May.
