The No. 2 nationally ranked GCC men's lacrosse team won its sixth game in a row on Saturday afternoon, dropping visiting Finger Lakes CC 21-4.
The Cougars wasted little time to score, finding the back of the net just over 30 seconds into the first quarter when Davis Prince scored off of an assist from Pat Van Bortle. It was Prince's 32nd goal of the season.
Genesee scored five more times in the opening quarter, with goals from Patrick Bilbrey, Seth Ferguson, a man-up goal by Baden Boyenko and Prince's second. Alex Mack and Daniel Blocho each had an assist and Van Bortle added two more assists to help GCC to a 5-1 lead after one.
The Cougars' defense shut down the FLCC offense in the second quarter, holding the visitors scoreless in a quarter where they extended their lead to 12 by halftime. Prince began the scoring with a man-down goal less than a minute into the period and Van Bortle followed to give GCC a 7-1 lead.
After Bilbrey scored at the 8:49 mark to make it an 8-1 game, Sherman Williams found the back of the net, followed by two straight from Mack and a goal by Jordan Brennan to end the first half.
The Cougars outscored Finger Lakes 8-1 in the third quarter and gave up two in the fourth.
Darin Eakins allowed just a single goal in net during the first half, making two saves along the way. Garrett Lazore saw second half action and allowed three goals while making nine saves.
Chance Gates collected four ground balls, Brad Hejmanowski had 10 face-off wins and grabbed four ground balls, Bailey Sky caused three turnovers and Blocho finished with six ground balls.
Van Bortle led the offense with eight total points, scoring twice and assisting on six goals. Prince, Bilbrey and Mack each finished with three goals, and Boyenko and Williams each finished with two goals apiece.
Genesee (9-2) will end its regular season on the road at Herkimer College on Apr. 22. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
