No. 5 Cougars Roll to Road Win at Jefferson

The No. 5 Cougars won on the road at Jefferson CC on Wednesday night, scoring 20 or more goals for the fourth time this season in a 24-4 win over the Cannoneers.

Genesee built an 8-0 lead after the first quarter and limited Jefferson to just a single first half goal in the second period, taking a 16-1 lead into halftime.

Darin Eakins made 11 saves in net during the first half before giving way to Garrett Lazore.

GCC increased its lead to 22-4 after three quarters and shutout JCC in the fourth to secure the win.

Davis Prince led the Cougars' offense with 10 points, scoring four goals and assisting on six. Pat Van Bortle scored four goals and added two assists, Patrick Bilbrey added four goals and an assist, Alex Mack found the back of the net four times, Baden Boyenko scored two goals and assisted on two, Josh Bernas had three assists and scored a goal, Jordan Brennan added two assists and a goal and Seth Ferguson and Matt Cromie scored two goals apiece.

Brad Hejmanowski was 18-31 on face-offs and collected 11 ground balls. Connor Harman had seven ground balls and four takeaways to lead the defense, and Lazore made five saves during the second half.

Genesee (6-2) will play the final game of a four-game road stretch on Saturday at No. 3 Howard CC. Face-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
