Genesee Upsets #4 Herkimer in Overtime Thriller, 75-72
Men's Basketball pulled off an incredible upset, defeating the #4 nationally ranked Herkimer College in a dramatic 75-72 overtime victory. Rayvon Weir was electric, leading the team with 27 points, including 6 three-pointers, and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Zaphian Scott contributed a near double-double with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Carlos Perez added 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists to the Cougars' balanced effort.
Despite trailing 37-32 at halftime, Genesee stormed back with a strong second half, tying the game at 64 apiece to force overtime. In the extra period, the Cougars outscored Herkimer 11-8, fueled by clutch free-throw shooting (80% for the game) and relentless defense. Antoine McFadden and Jerry Ortiz added valuable contributions, combining for 8 rebounds and 8 points, helping Genesee dominate the boards with 38 total rebounds.
The team will play again, tomorrow at home against Mohawk Valley, with tip off starting at 3:00 PM.
