Five Genesee Players Combine for 94 Points in Triple-Digit Win

The Genesee Community College men's basketball team put its engine in overdrive after the first eight minutes of its road game with Jamestown and went on to win 100-87 Feb. 24.

With about 12 minutes to go in the first half Jamestown held a 16-15 lead, but the Cougars went on an offensive surge in out-scoring the Jayhawks 42-16 the rest of the way in the first and taking a 25-point lead into the break.

Five players combined for 94 points with four reaching double-digits in either points or rebounds and two hitting thoses marks in both categories. Leading the way with more than 50 percent of the team's points collectively was Brian Fobbs and Rahmel Thompson.

The pair both recorded double-double performances with Fobbs leading in points with 30 and rebounds with 13. Thompson was not far behind with 26 points and 11 boards.

The team shot nearly 50 percent from the field and was hot from outside the arc with a shooting percentage of 43 percent. Of the dozen threes the team recorded, half of them came from Thompson.

Jordan Smart was just a point away from a double-double himself with nine, while adding 10 rebounds and a team-high five assists. Jarett Haines added 18, while Tyrese Cherry led all players from the bench with 11.

Fobbs' 30 points gave him 1243 for his career and moved him into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time list surpassing Naquil Jones' 1241.

Genesee stays on the road and wraps up its regular season in Erie, Pa. Feb. 28 with a game against Mercyhurst North East.
