Second-Half Decides Men’s Basketball Season Opener

The Genesee Community College men's basketball team traveled to Corning for their Crossover Tournament with the Cougars taking on the host Red Barons in the early afternoon matchup.

With a dead-even first-half battle that ended tied at 38 points apiece, the Cougars were out-scored by nine in the second half by 52-43 to drop their opening match to the Red Barons 90-81.

Two players accounted for more than half of Genesee's points while registering double-doubles with a collective 43 points and 23 rebounds.

Brian Fobbs led the Cougars with 22 points and a dozen boards, while Rahmel Thompson wasn't far behind with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Jaheem Page fell one rebound shy of being the third Cougar to record a double-double when he scored 13 points with nine boards.

Brandon Peters added 10 points and Jarett Haines scored nine from the bench to round out Genesee's top scorers. Peters was also the team's top playmaker with a team-high four assists.

Genesee continues in the Crossover Tournament with a game against SUNY Broome Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. at host Corning.
