Cougars Hold off Mercyhurst North East 100-90

The Cougars put up 100 or more points for the fifth time this season on Saturday and held off visiting Mercyhurst North East 100-90 to remain in the hunt for the No. 1 seed of the regional playoffs.

GCC trailed 23-20 midway through the first half, but used a 31-19 run to end the period to take a nine point lead into halftime.

The Cougars stretched their lead after an 8-0 run to start the second, and led by as many as 17 before the Saints started to chip away.

Bryan Fobbs scored two of his 18 points in the game with a layup just over three-minute into the second half to put GCC up 59-42, but Mercyhurst used a 31-19 surge to get within five with 8:30 to play.
Genesee responded with a 9-0 run to regain a double-digit lead and held off the Saints for the second time this season.
Rahmel Thompson led GCC with a team-high 23 points, Fobbs tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, Ladji Fofana also added 18 points and 10 boards, Brandon Peters dished out 12 assists and scored 11 points, Brandon Adams and Jaheem Page each scored nine points apiece and Justin Washington scored six points and collected nine rebounds.

Genesee (17-12, 7-2) will end its regular season on Wednesday on the road at Jamestown CC. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
