The GCC men's basketball team let a 15 point second half lead slip away on Saturday afternoon, dropping to 0-2 in Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) play after No. 10 nationally ranked Niagara County CC came back to drop Genesee 60-57.
The Cougars built a 14 point lead after Rahmel Thompson hit back-to-back threes with just over eight minutes to play in the first half. Thompson knocked down three triples in the game and finished with a team high 16 points.
Genesee limited Niagara to just eight first half field goals and a 25 percent shooting percentage.
Thompson's three point basket with 12:47 left in the game put GCC up 48-33, but the Thunderwolves closed the game on a 27-9 run and held Genesee without a field goal until the final 24 seconds to escape with the win.
Ladji Fofana reached double figures in scoring for GCC, finishing with 14 points. He also dished out six assists and collected four rebounds. Brandon Adams added nine points, Brian Fobbs finished with five, Dejean Ellebb grabbed 11 boards and scored five points and Brandon Peters finished with five points.
Genesee (9-11, 0-2) will host WNYAC rival Monroe CC on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
