Thompson and Fofana Combine for 69 in Win Over Sheridan

Rahmel Thompson and Ladji Fofana combined for 69 points on Tuesday afternoon to carry the GCC men's basketball team past visiting Sheridan College (Canada), ending the first semester with a 103-96 win for Genesee.

Genesee topped the 100-point mark for the second game in a row and held on to win despite letting go of a 13 point second half lead.

The Thompson-Fofana duo scored 17 of GCC's first 20 points to start the game to send the Cougars out to an early lead. Thompson hit three first half three-pointers and Fofana shot 80-percent from the floor in the opening half and led all scorers at the break with 20 points.

After a Thompson jumper at the 16:15 mark of the second half, Genesee held its largest lead at 61-48. The visiting Bruins stormed back behind a 10-0 run that cut the deficit to three, and took the lead with just over six minutes left to play at 80-79.

Thompson hit a combined three out of four free-throws in two successive possessions to put Genesee back in front by one, but Sheridan took back the lead after cashing in on one of its 13 three-point baskets in the game.

Another Thompson bucket with just over three minutes to play sparked the game-deciding run for the Cougars, helping Genesee end the game by outscoring Sheridan 16-8 en-route to its seventh victory of the season.

Thompson led all scorers with 37 points and Fofana ended with 32 points and 12 rebounds. Brian Fobbs also reached double figures for GCC, finishing with 11 points. He also grabbed eight boards.

Genesee shot better than 55-percent in the game and improves to 7-8 with the win. The Cougars will return to action on Jan. 8 at home against Niagara College (Canada).
