Cougars Top Century Mark in Win Over Lakeland

The GCC men's basketball team topped the 100-point mark for the first time this season, dropping visiting Lakeland CC on Sunday afternoon 111-77.

The Cougars played a back-and-forth game early on before Brandon Adams knocked down a three with just over seven minutes to play in the first, sparking a 23-4 run that ended the half for GCC. Genesee held Lakeland to just two baskets in the final eight minutes of the opening 20.

Brandon Peters dished out a game-high 12 assists, seven of which came in the second half, and the GCC lead hovered around 20 before a late run put the Cougars up big.

A balanced scoring effort saw seven Cougars reach double figures, led by Adams who finished with 23 including four 3pt baskets.

Ladji Fofana recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Dejean Ellebb added 16 points and seven boards, Rahmel Thompson chipped in 13 points, and Elias Ezenekwe and Brian Fobbs each finished with 10 points apiece.

With the win, the Cougars avenge and earlier-season loss at Lakeland CC and snaps a two-game losing streak. Genesee improves to 6-8 on the season and will end the first semester at home on Tuesday afternoon against Sheridan College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
