The Genesee Community College golf team completed its 2018 season with an eighth-place finish at the National College Junior Athletic Association's Region-III Championships May 14-15 at the 72-par Timber Banks Golf Club and hosted by Onondaga Community College in Baldwinsville.

The Cougars had their best day on the opening day of competition finishing fifth overall with a team score of 364 that had Genesee just seven strokes from the top-three.

Leading the way on the first day was Jeffrey Coons whose 87 left him tied for 12th overall. Just one stroke behind Koons on the first day was Dakota Dillon with an 88 and tied-15th. Evan Kerl shot 93 and Joseph Calvert shot 96 to round out Genesee's top-four.

Both Kerl and Calvert improved their games in the second day of competition with Kerl carding a 90 with a three-stroke improvement from the previous day, while Calvert had the best improvement of five strokes with a second-day 91.

Genesee had one golfer finish in the top-20 overall in Dillon with a two-day total of 178. With the top 15 scores receiving automatic all-region selections, Dillon was just three strokes away from the cutoff of 175 and barely missing an opportunity to advance to the nationals in June.
