Cougars Score 25 Runs in Ithaca Doubleheader

The Genesee Community College baseball team got 15 runs in its first game and 10 in the second to sweep Ithaca April 30. The combined 25 runs more than doubled Ithaca's collective dozen runs over the two games.

Jakob MacLeod had the hot bat in the first game going 5-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and a triple, and scored five runs to go with two RBI.

Deion Rosalia also had a pair of doubles from his three hits and added an RBI, while Bryant Fontanez and Justin Baly both had a pair of hits. Fontanez had a team-high three RBI with L'Shandry Kirindongo.

The Cougars took the lead from the get-go and ended the game early with a nine-run sixth inning.

In the second game Genesee posted a come-from-behind win after trailing by three runs after three innings, but a four-run fourth inning began a rally that ended with a 10-7 score.

Five Cougars accounted for 10 of the team's 13 hits with a pair each coming from MacLeod, Kirindongo, Rosalia, Shannon Folkes and Peter Bradford. Rosalia had three RBI and a double and both MacLeod and Folkes added an RBI.

While the Cougars were busy at the plate with a collective 28 hits, the Genesee pitchers allowed seven. Andrew Shapiro and Nick Goodrich-Leach combined for a four-hitter with each giving up a pair of hits in the first game, while Gionny Phelipa and Goodrich-Leach gave up a combined three hits in the second game.

The Cougars now host Corning May 1 with 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. tentative start times, in a home-and-home series that ends at Corning May 3.
