Baseball Team Concludes Weekend with First Win

The Genesee Community College baseball team wrapped up its first weekend of play with a 7-5 win over Middlesex County in South Carolina with a 13-hit performance March 11.

Jayson Libert recorded the win from the mound with three innings of work while allowing four hits to go with three strikeouts. Libert also hit a 3-RBI triple.

Four Cougars registered a pair of hits each that included: Bryant Fontanez, Nate Darwin, L'Shandry Kirindongo and Shannon Folkes.

Prior to that the Cougars dropped a pair of contests, but you could feel the bats progressively heating up with five hits in each of the losses as the run total went from one to seven.

In the 3-1 season-opening loss to Ocean County March 10, Folks led the team with a pair of hits that included a double, while scoring the team's only run.

The following day in the first of two games, Genesee dropped a 7-5 contest to Northampton. Bryant Fontanez hit the team's first homerun of the season while adding four RBI. Kirindongo added a pair of hits, while single hits came from Folkes and Jakob MacLeod.

The Cougars will continue in south Carolina this week with seven more contest beginning with a matchup against Montgomery County at 10 a.m. March 12.
