UPDATE: Genesee Drops First Game of Doubleheader to Erie, Game Two Halted

The GCC baseball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Erie CC on Wednesday 15-4, and leads 7-2 in game two, a game that was halted due to darkness.

Genesee scored all four of its runs in the fourth inning of game one. Joseph DeFelice led off the frame with a double and crossed the plate for the first time for the Cougars, who batted around in the inning, on a wild pitch. Manuel Tejeda delivered an RBI single to cut the lead down to 6-2, and a balk got the Cougars to within three. Corey Regnet then cut it to two with an RBI single and a Brandon Henshaw walk loaded the bases, but GCC could not capitalize and left all three runners stranded.

Josh Porter was a tough luck loser on the mound, allowing six runs (zero earned) in four innings of work. He allowed five hits and struck out one.

Andrew Shapiro went 2-4 with a pair of singles, Tejada was 3-4 with a run scored and Regnet finished game one with two hits in three at bats.

Jonathan Harris racked up three hits and scored a run in game two and Casey Guary went 2-2, including a solo home run to help GCC win the finale.

GCC jumped in front early with two runs in the first, and had a three-run fourth inning highlighted by an RBI double from Rodolfo Rodriguez.

Game two will resume in the sixth inning at a date/time/location to be announced.

Genesee (5-9) had its schedule doubleheader at Erie on Thursday rained out and will return to action on Saturday at SUNY Broome.
