Lady Knights Clipped by Cougars at Holiday Classic

Warwick, R.I. – December 10, 2018: the CCRI Lady Knights Basketball Team traveled to Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY over the weekend to compete in the 2018 Genesee cougar Holiday Classic. On Saturday CCRI faced the hosting Cougars and lost 80-77. With the loss the Lady Knights fall to 3-6 on the season while Genesee improve to 9-2.

The Lady Knights were coming off a stretch that saw them win three of their last four games but they were going to be for a tough battle versus the Cougars of Genesee on their home court in Batavia. The Lady Knight kept it close in the first quarter getting five points apiece from Olivia Batastini-Pallister (Providence, RI) and Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) but the Cougars maintained a 17-14 lead. CCRI outscored the Cougars 21-20 in the second quarter paced by 11 points by Co-Captain Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) and six on two- 3-pointers from Freshman Courtney Dorr (East Providence, RI). However, Genesee took a 37-35 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter Olivia Batastini-Pallister once again led the way with seven points including a 3-pointer but the Cougars got 12 points from Talia Burgess including three 3-pointers. The Cougars extended their lead over CCRI to seven points with the score 60-53.

In the fourth quarter Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn did everything in her power to help the Lady Knights gain a road victory scoring 14 points including two 3-pointers while also getting help from Batastini-Pallister who also added two 3-pointers but the Cougars made their fouls shots down the stretch and while getting six more points from Burgess to secure the hard fought 80-77 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn who charted a double-double scoring a game-high 24 points with 11 rebounds and three assists. Also having a big game was Olivia Batastini-Pallister who scored 21 points including five 3-pointers with four assists and a steal and Co-Captain Kat Raposo scored 15 points with four rebounds and assists and a steal.

The Lady Knights have no time to rest as they will face the undefeated (13-0) Thunderwolves of Niagara County CC Sunday at 11am to conclude their play in the 2018 Cougar Holiday Classic.
