Lakers Upset Nationally Ranked #4 Genesee Community College

BATAVIA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College women's soccer team pulled off the biggest upset of their season thus far, toppling the nationally ranked #4 Cougars of Genesee Community College in a 2-1 thriller.

Lakers Freshman Ella Lewis (Lyndonville, N.Y./ Lyndonville) stepped up to the challenge, converting 2 shots on goal to secure the win for the Lakers. Lewis would score her first goal unassisted before receiving a feed from Sophomore teammate Allie Bowe (Victor, N.Y./ Victor) to break the tie for what was the eventual game-winning goal.

Goalie Grace Hall (Honeoye, N.Y./ Honeoye) picked up her 5th win in goal on the season, making 8 saves and holding the Cougars, who had an average of 4.5 goals a game to 1 goal.

With the win, the Lakers extend their winning streak to 5 straight and cement themselves as a true threat in regional play. They also add to the argument for a position on the NJCAA Division III women's soccer national rankings. To go along with a dynamic offense, the Lakers' defense has held teams to a goals-allowed average of .50; allowing no more than 2 goals in a game this season. The team has remained solid thus far and will look to build on what looks to be a promising season. The Lakers have a quick turnaround, as they hit the road for a non-regional matchup with St. John Fisher University at 7 PM today, September 19th.
