Men's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team battled against the elements as they were defeated 18-10 by Genesee on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC.

The Vikings gave up three early goals but they fought their way back by the end of the first quarter, trailing 3-2. After the quarter break, Genesee's offense went on a short run to increase their lead to 7-2. Following a Hudson Valley timeout, the Vikings rallied, scoring three unanswered goals with seconds remaining in the first half and entered the halftime break trailing 7-5.

In the second half, Genesee came out of the break with a new energy, which led to a 4-0 run to go up 11-5 before Matthew Calicchia stopped the run with a goal at 3:38 remaining in the third quarter and the Vikings trailed 11-6. Gavin Breen scored the team's seventh goal of the game with 1:13 remaining as they Vikings attempt to set the stage for a fourth-quarter comeback attempt.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings couldn't slow down the Cougars as they were outscored 5-0 and Hudson Valley ultimately dropped its second consecutive game following a 2-0 start to the season.

Leading the Vikings offensively was Bill DiDonna, who tallied seven total points on four goals and three assists. Calicchia finished the game with two goals and Jack Alvey added two more goals to his season totals.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, March 29 as they welcome Herkimer for a critical NJCAA Region 3 matchup at the Outdoor Athletic Complex at HVCC. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will be live streamed at hvccathletics.com/WATCH.
