Volleyball Fights Through First Pod of Season

The Hudson Valley women's volleyball program traveled to Rochester, NY to compete in the Monroe pod tournament on Saturday and finished with a 0-3 record.  Despite the winless record, the Vikings fought hard all day, losing key matches by just two points, narrowly edged by their opponents. 

Monroe 3, Hudson Valley 1

In the four-set match, the Vikings combined for 25 kills, 21 digs, 9 service aces and pair of assisted blocks against host Monroe.  

Individually, the Vikings attack was led by Alyssa Bruno and Tatianah Zeigler, who each tallied five kills. Bruno also record an assisted block. Adriana Diaz-Rolon finished the match with a team-best 9 digs and added a pair of service aces, one kill and five assists. Skyler Kennedy guided the offense throughout as she posted 15 assists. 

Genesee 3, Hudson Valley 0

The Vikings couldn't steal a set against a tough Genesee program, losing in straight sets, with Hudson Valley struggling to connect on the kills. They combined to tally nine total kills, 8 assists and five service aces. Zeigler led the Vikings with four kills, while Kennedy added five assists.

Finger Lakes 3, Hudson Valley 1

The Vikings rebounded nicely against Finger Lakes, despite a tough first set, the Vikings lost the second set 25-23 before winning the third set 25-23. The tough match featured 14 kills, 11 assists, five digs and five service aces. 

Kennedy continued to lead the way with six assists and Diaz-Rolon added five assists. Bruno recorded all five digs for the Vikings in the final match of the day. 

Upcoming Schedule

The Vikings return home on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they host conference rival Herkimer at 6 p.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex. The match will stream live at hvccathletics.com/WATCH. Their next pod tournament is on Sunday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Buffalo to compete in the Erie pod and will face-off against Erie, Niagara and Jamestown.
