The Genesee Community College athletics department has adopted and will incorporate the hashtag #cougarPRIDE for its Twitter followers and those interested in finding an optional link to tweets and related posts.
While the success of the athletics department's teams has been well documented over the years, recent national championships have put GCC athletics at a new level and expectation for success.
"Many of the traits associated with national-championship recognition by our student-athletes are synonymous, regardless of the sport," began GCC athletic director Kristen Schuth.
"Among those characteristics are passion, resilience, integrity, dedication and excellence. In an effort to connect better with the Cougar community, we initiated a new hashtag whereby an acronym for those special qualities that our athletes possess so well, could be linked with the Cougar name."
The P-R-I-D-E acronym that Schuth described employs a capitol letter to symbolize those aforementioned qualities that the GCC student-athletes demonstrate so consistently with P-for-passion, R-for-resilience, I-for-integrity, D-for-dedication and E-for-excellence.
Tweets can also be found on the bottom right of the athletic department's website's main page with the athletics department's handle @GCCSports.
