Fifth Genesee Athletics Banquet Held at RCC Arena

Dr. James M. Sunser

The Genesee athletics department held its fifth-annual banquet to look back at all of the athletic accomplishments over the 2017-18 year. The banquet was held at the Richard C. Call Arena May 10.

In addition to various team-related athletic awards, the school's health and physical education department also bestowed awards to outstanding students within the department.

The evening began with remarks from Genesee Community College President Dr. James M. Sunser and was followed by the acknowledgment of student-athlete representatives of LEADS (Leaders in Education, Athletics and Development of Student Athletes).

Each of the school's 11 sports that compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association awarded most improved, best teammate, Cougar player, and coaches awards.

The most improved player went to an individual who has shown the most skill improvement, best teammate went to an individual whose primary interest dealt with the team's success, Cougar player went to an individual making the most significant athletic contribution, and the coaches award went to an individual who was the best role model for the awarding program by leading in multiple ways.

In addition, one team award was presented to the team making the most significant improvements from the previous season; as well as awards for scholar-athletes, athletic service, and an athletic director's award. Athletes recognized with all-region and all-American accolades were also recognized.
