NJCAA Continues to Recognize Genesee’s Soccer Programs

The National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association announced its national selections for soccer players of the week with Genesee taking both the men's and women's top player spots for D-III Oct. 18.

Although the Cougars have taken top region players for both the men's and women's teams during the same week already, it was the first time this season the Cougars accomplished that same distinction at the national level.

Miko Yamashita was the women's top player in the country because of her performance last week that included three goals and three assists, while Billy Murphy took the top men's spot with a five goal and three assist performance.

The announcement comes just one day after NJCAA Region III named Glenn Holmes as its top Male Athlete of the Week for his four goals and two assists Oct. 17.

To date, the Cougars have won a dozen NJCAA top player accolades this season combined at the national and regional levels.

Last week, Charlie Livesey became the second Cougar to take both top region and top national honors in the same week - about a month after Ryan Price accomplished the same feat. Murphy has also won both honors, but on different occasions as has Yamashita.

Men's goalkeeper David Ormiston won back-to-back national goalie of the week to round out the national winners, while Katline Cartwright took top region honors during the first week of nominations.

Both soccer teams continue to excel as the men's team is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation with a 14-game unbeaten streak, while the the women's team is No. 4 with 13 wins and 10 coming by way of shutout.
